About Conductix-Wampfler (USA)

Conductix-Wampfler  is the trade name for a wholly owned subsidiary of DELACHAUX S.A. (Gennevilliers, France). Since its inception in 1902, Delachaux has been a leading international manufacturer of mobile electrification systems, rail welding and components for the railroad industry, magnetics, cable machinery, chromium, and transit systems. As Delachaux's mobile electrification arm in North and South America, Conductix-Wampfler USA [legal name Conductix, Inc formerly Insul 8 Corporation , Industrial Electric Reels (IER), and Wampfler Inc. USA] carries on this tradition of innovation and excellence. Insul 8 and IER became part of the Delachaux Group in 1975 and officially became one company under the Insul-8 name on December 31, 1996. On January 1, 2006, Insul-8 Corporation was renamed CONDUCTIX to better reflect the global operations of the company and to better integrate its operations with the other Delachaux-owned power and data transfer companies. On January 1, 2007 Delachaux acquired Wampfler AG (Weil am Rhein, Germany). Since then Wampfler Inc. USA has merged with Conductix, Inc. under the brand name “Conductix-Wampfler”. Each prior company has its own rich history.

Industrial Electric Reels, Inc. began in 1924 with the founding of Industrial Electric Works (IEW), an electrical contractor based in Omaha, Nebraska. After World War II, IEW began the manufacture of electric cable reeling equipment and started IER as an operating division in 1948.

IER's first cable reel, the hand-wind PORT-O-REEL, was quickly followed by light duty spring retractable cable reels. Through the early years, IER pioneered the development of cable reeling devices and slip rings. Soon the company began designing and building large, custom-built motor driven reels and stand-alone slip rings. IER gained national reputation as a quality manufacturer of reels ranging from small commercial duty reels to large custom-built reels for the most demanding applications such as container cranes, stacker/reclaimers and bulk material ship unloaders and loaders.

Insul 8 Corporation, founded in 1944, was the inventor of the original "Figure 8" conductor bar, the first insulated conductor system for the material handling industry. Insul 8 was the first company to design and produce a stainless steel capped aluminum conductor and the only manufacturer of such a product for almost 20 years. There is currently over 25 million meters of "Insul 8" conductor bar and tens of thousands of collectors at work throughout the world. Every major port on the United States West Coast is using Insul 8's aluminum/stainless steel contact conductors on its container cranes due to its dependability under the most severe conditions.

Wampfler Inc. (USA) was started in 1974 as a subsidiary of Wampfler AG. Wampfler AG was founded in 1959 by Manfred Wampfler. Mr. Wampfler began making rubber rubbers for moving equipment; then quickly moved into the mobile electrification business, primarily cable festoons, followed by conductor bar, spring and motorized cable reels, and various electronic systems.

Conductix-Wampfler has been in the business of supplying power from stationary sources to mobile systems for a greater part of this century. Our cable reels, slip rings, conductor bar, festoon systems, pendants, cable chain, and radio controls are used in a wide variety of applications ranging from material handling and mass transit systems to water treatment plants and performing arts theaters.
